Carrick Rangers defeated East Antrim rivals Ballyclare Comrades in this League Cup second round clash at Dixon Park.

Chris Trussell might have edged Ballyclare in front as early as the second minute with a low left-foot effort which Rangers 'keeper Ryan Morrell did well to save.

And a short time later Thomas Robinson came close after racing through the defence while, just short of the half-hour mark, Dean Youle was unfortunate to see a header cleared off the line by Tiarnan McNicholl.

Carrick dominated more after the break, duly taking the lead on 57 minutes courtesy of a Daniel Kelly finish after Gary Lavery had delivered the perfect through ball from the right.

McNicholl almost doubled Rangers lead on 71 minutes only to see an effort well saved by Paddy Flood at the near post.

However, Kieran Harding's side made sure of their place in the next round deep into stoppage time after Adam Salley lobbed Flood.
