NAIL BITING FINALE UNDER THE MOURNEVIEW PARK LIGHTS

In the end the spoils were shared but what a dramatic finish to this Battle of the Glens at Mourneview Park!

Glenavon striker Andrew Mitchell was denied with the first real effort of note after a quarter-of-an-hour when his volley from six yards was superbly saved by Elliott Morris.

Morris was called into action five minutes after that to thwart Mitchell again but, on 24 minutes, the Glenavon man did find a way through with a fizzing 25-yard low along the surface into the bottom corner.

Glenavon threatened early in the second half when Bobby Burns saw a free-kick saved by Morris before Simon Kelly headed over from the corner that followed.

The visitors came close to levelled around the hour mark when first Curtis Allen saw a shot deflected with the ball falling for John McGuigan who also saw his effort deflected before Johnny Tuffey gathered.

Glentoran started to create more as the second half progressed but almost fell further behind when Adam Foley linked up with Burns before eventually turning the ball against an upright.

However Glentoran did equalise on 81 minutes when Curtis Allen beat three defenders before laying the ball off for substitute Robbie McDaid, on his debut, to side foot into the far corner.

Then, remarkably, four minutes after that, McDaid grabbed his second of the night after making the most of some static defending to fire a half volley past Tuffey.

But there was another twist moments later when another debutant substitute, Josh Daniels, levelled for Glenavon with a 10-yard driven finish past Morris following some frantic defending from the visitors.

Indeed, Daniels almost snatched victory in stoppage time only to be thwarted by a brilliant save from Morris in what was a gripping finish to the game.
