LURGAN BLUES MISS OUT ON CHANCE TO GO TOP

Glenavon missed out on the opportunity to move to the top of the table following this Friday night draw with Dungannon Swifts at Mourneview Park.

Mark Sykes might have opened the scoring early on when his low cross from the byline took a deflection off a Swifts defender only to hit the base of the far post.

At the other end Paul McElroy burst through on goal but he was thwarted by a good save from Johnny Tuffey.

As the sides traded chances Ryan Mayse crafted perhaps the best opening of the first half when he found himself one-on-one with the 'keeper after beating the offside trap but again Tuffey did well to deal with the danger.

The deadlock was broken in Glenavon's favour on 41 minutes after Adam Foley crossed into the box for Bobby Burns to nip in to get the final touch to direct the ball past Stuart Addis at the near post.

The visitors might have levelled midway through the second half after Andrew Doyle and Tuffey got into a mix-up on the edge of the box but McElroy was unable to capitalise.

Glenavon then came close to extending their advantage after Burns crossed for Andrew Mitchell but his goalbound downward header was cleared off the line.

Dungannon levelled with six minutes remaining after McElroy created a little bit of space for himself before firing an unstoppable effort beyond Tuffey's reach into the top corner.
