BLUES BEGIN TITLE DEFENCE WITH VICTORY OVER CARRICK

Linfield kicked off their defence of the Danske Bank Premiership with a two-goal defeat of Carrick Rangers at Windsor Park.

Niall Quinn opened the scoring for the Blues after 16 minutes with a clinical finish from around 15 yards after Jamie Mulgrew found him with a pass.

And Quinn turned provider six minutes from the break when his cross from the left found Kirk Millar who duly directed a header beyond Harry Doherty to double Linfield's advantage.
