BLUES BAG ANOTHER FOUR AT STANGMORE

Champions Linfield maintained their 100% start to their title defence with a four-goal defeat of Dungannon Swifts at Stangmore Park.

Linfield grabbed the advantage on 21 minutes through Paul Smyth's back post header after Andrew Mitchell released Chris Casement down the right to deliver the telling cross.

Niall Quinn made it 2-0 in the closing stages of the first half when a free-kick was laid off for him 25-yards from goal to strike an unstoppable effort into the top left corner through the hands of 'keeper Stuart Addis.

Then, right on the stroke of half-time, the Blues extended their lead when a Quinn corner from the right was glanced towards goal by Mark Haughey.

The scoring was complete two minutes from time when Andrew Mitchell fired home from the spot after David Armstrong was adjudged to have fouled Mark Stafford as they battled to reach a free-kick from the right.
