Ards collected a crucial three points with this Friday night defeat of Ballinamallard United.

Colin Nixon's side started brightly, coming close early on when Carl McComb looked poised to score only for 'keeper Richard Brush to do well to smother the danger.

Another McComb chance was foiled a quarter-of-an-hour later with Brush again denying him after he got on he end of a Guillaume Keke cross.

For the Mallards Johnny Lafferty came closest just after the half-hour mark only to head over from six yards.

The deadlock was broken on 37 minutes from the spot following a Brush foul on Keke, with Michael Ruddy stepping up to convert.

Keke might have added a second soon after but he couldn't keep his header down while an effort not long after the restart was deflected just wide.

However the Frenchman did make it 2-0 on 64 minutes after connecting with a David McAllister cross to smash the ball home in off the underside of the bar.

The Mallards had two late chances. On 80 minutes Keke cleared a corner off the line before, on 87 minutes, Ryan Mayse fired into the side-netting.
